IT/Dev Connections 2016 Speaker Highlight: Ryan Adams

Part of an ongoing series, we're highlighting the excellent speakers we have handpicked to present phenomenal and extremely valuable content at the IT/Dev Connections conference. Want more? Get the Insider’s Scoop About IT/Dev Connections 2016 on September 8!

This speaker highlight is Ryan Adams.

Ryan's IT/Dev Connection sessions:

Recently, we asked Ryan to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:

ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.

Ryan: I am a SQL Server MVP and have worked for Verizon since 1998. My primary focus is the SQL Server Engine, high availability, and disaster recovery. Prior to becoming a SQL DBA, I was a Senior Active Directory Architect and Identity Management Consultant where I architected the company's worldwide Active Directory infrastructure supporting over 250k users.  I serve on both the PASS Board of Directors as well as the Board of Directors for the North Texas SQL Server User Group. I hold the following certifications: MCP MCSA MCSE MCDBA MCTS MCITP

I also enjoy craft beer and recently built a home keezer (kegerator in a freezer).

ITDC: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.

Ryan: I will be speaking on corruption in SQL Server.  It’s a DBA’s greatest fear and a definite panic moment.  As an introductory session, I hope to take the fear out and give DBAs the knowledge and tools to plan for and handle the situation.

I will also be talking about Policy Based Management and Central Management Server.  For shops of a medium and large size, this can make managing your environment much easier.  Consistency and standards make that management easier and these built in and free tools can automate that for you.

ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?

Ryan: I present topics in a logical and stepped approach which makes tough topics easy to follow.  Attendees will walk away feeling confident and empowered to deploy these topics and methods when they return home.

ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?

Ryan: What I love most about IT/Dev Connections is the diversity of topics.  In IT we are constantly being pushed to do more with less and that means technologists wear many hats.  This conference allows you to find training for all of those hats in one place.  I love SQL Server, but I’m also an IT Pro so I can feed both of those passions.

ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?

Ryan: Data of course!  More and more businesses every day are starting to realize the gold mines they are sitting on.  That makes them more concerned about protecting that data and learning what they can glean from it to help the business remain competitive and profitable.

ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.

Ryan: I enjoy craft beer and like trying new things and visiting local breweries.  I’m also a minor league hockey fan.
