This speaker highlight is Roland Guijt.

Roland's IT/Dev Connection sessions:

Recently, we asked Roland to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:

ITDC: Give us a brief introduction to you.

Roland: Hi there, my name is Roland Guijt and I live in a nano town in The Netherlands with my wife and two sons. I'm a freelance contractor and besides developing (and speaking at conferences) I create courses for Pluralsight.

ITDC: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.

Roland: I'll be presenting two sessions. One is about ASP.NET Core. That is the most exciting release of ASP.NET since it's beginnings. It will be a challenge to explain all the good new stuff in just one hour. Maybe I'll do a follow-up in the bar. The other one is about creating message-based architectures with MassTransit, an open source .Net Framework. If you've ever worked with distributed applications (SOAP/REST etc.) come see this one. The technique has some important advantages over the way distributed apps are normally created.

ITDC: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?

Roland: You'll be ready to make a start in the development of new web applications in ASP.NET Core and setting up a message-based architecture. The sessions will give you a new way to look at both ASP.NET development and creating distributed apps.

ITDC: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT/Dev Connections?

Roland: Once per year I get the opportunity to escape from the nano town to a real city! Seriously: if find the mix of IT and Dev unique. As a developer I'm curious about what's going on in the IT world and IT/Dev Connections is the only conference I know of that gives you that opportunity. It's also the only place where devs and IT people can co-exist without major incidents :-)

ITDC: What is the one key technology you believe is changing the technology industry right now?

Roland: Containers! Working with technologies like Docker will make deployment life a lot easier for both IT people and devs.

ITDC: Assuming attendees want to know, what’s your favorite, non-technical hobby or pastime? What’s one thing that totally irks you.

Roland: I'm a movie buff. A big treat for me is going to a good movie with the soundtrack performed live by an orchestra. And I'm allergic for everything that has to do with unfairness.
