System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager and Intune: Setup and Deployment Notes from the Field, with a Focus on Single Sign-On
This session dives into what you'll do at the server level to drive System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager and Windows Intune integration for mobile device management. The session includes real-life experience from the field to set up a subscription, connectors, certificates, Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS 2.0/2.1/3.0), DirSync, and workplace join scenarios among all possible server configurations that enable mobile device management. Learn best practices for setting up AD FS from the field for user authentication and Single Sign-On; prepare for the challenges if you invested in previous AD FS 2.0/2.1 and want to take advantage of AD FS 3.0; discuss common processes related to Intune setup; and learn how to validate and troubleshoot your setup.
Managing Your Hybrid Mobile Cloud Workforce with System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager
Do you need to manage Windows 8.1/RT, including non-Microsoft mobile devices, with Microsoft's UDM solution (Configuration Manager 2012 R2 plus Intune)? Do you need to provide functionality for deploying the new Intune extensions (such as email profiles), managing your MDM settings, configuring VPN and wireless profiles, and deploying certificates? Compliance settings, company resource access, and Intune extensions delivered in Configuration Manager are mostly unexplored territory for the Configuration Manager administrator. In this session we'll use numerous demos to demystify these features.
Recently, we asked Tim to give us a little information about himself. Here's what he shared:
WITPRO: Give us a brief introduction to yourself.
Tim: My name is Tim De Keukelaere. I am a freelance IT consultant based in Belgium. I am active as an engineer, trainer and consultant for the past 15 years. Ever since I have started working in IT I have had a strong interest and focus on systems management. My areas of interest and expertise are Enterprise Client Management and Enterprise Mobility Management. From a product perspective the initial seven years of my career were mainly dedicated to Altiris products - after that I moved on and worked almost exclusively with SMS and later on System Center Configuration Manager.
Besides doing project work I am also very active in the System Center community: I enjoy sharing knowledge and ideas with fellow enthusiasts. I am a regular speaker at events in Belgium and around the globe. As a board member of the System Center User Group in Belgium I aim to contribute to the local community and also by organizing events provide a platform for sharing knowledge and experiences.
WITPRO: Describe the sessions you are presenting and why you feel the topic is important.
Tim: I have 2 session deliveries on my agenda:
The first session is entitled System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager and Intune: Setup and Deployment Notes from the Field, with a Focus on Single Sign-On. During this session we will deep dive into how you can prepare your backend infrastructure to drive Configuration Manager 2012 R2 and Windows Intune integration for mobile device management. Based on experiences from the field we will cover a wide range of topics such as setting up a subscription, connectors, certificates, Active Directory Federation Services (ADFS), DirSync, and workplace join.
The second session is about Managing Your Hybrid Mobile Cloud Workforce with System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager. This is a must attend session for those facing the challenges of managing mobile devices using Microsoft’s UDM solutions. These devices may be running on a wide variety of platforms, from Windows 8.1/RT, to Windows Phone 8.1, iOS or other non-Microsoft platforms. During this session we will cover topics such as device enrollment, provisioning profiles, ConfigMgr Intune extensions, compliance settings with some advanced customizations, and much more.
WITPRO: What should attendees expect to be able to take away from your sessions?
Tim: After attending these sessions, attendees will better understand how they can enable their users to be productive from anywhere using a wide variety of devices; while maintaining control and ensuring company information and data stays secure.
WITPRO: What is your primary reason to be excited about IT Connections?
Tim: As an MMS Alumni I was really disappointed when the announcement came the event would no longer take place. For me MMS was primarily the annual returning opportunity to get together with fellow System Center enthusiasts from around the globe. As a first time attendee and speaker at ITDevConnections I hope this event can bring the same experience and vibe, and re-unite the former MMS community.
WITPRO: What is the one key technology you believe is changing IT right now?
Tim: From a workplace perspective it is clear to see that there is a shift from provisioning, managing and maintaining “classic” systems towards user centric IT and the use of mobile devices. Topics like BYOD, enterprise mobility management and more specifically unified device management will definitely be hot in the upcoming months and I expect these will evolve further in a very fast pace.
WITPRO: Do you think Satya Nadella can rebuild Microsoft into a Cloud powerhouse?
Tim: Maybe. Time will tell. I guess a big factor will be the adoption rate of enterprises around the globe. For many enterprise customers I am visiting today, the Cloud right now is still something that lives mainly on a slide deck. I believe that on their path to the cloud Microsoft should not lose focus on their existing customers who invested a lot in their on-premise technologies as well. Maybe the pace they want to move at is not as fast as Microsoft envisions it to be.
WITPRO: To get to know the real you, give us one thing about yourself you believe will be of most interest to attendees.
Tim: I am a real social guy and I love to share ideas and talk tech. Recent studies have proven I get more efficient at it when those talks are accompanied by a Mojito and some Sushi. ;-)
