When I interviewed the SharePoint team’s General Manager, Eric Swift, we spoke about SharePoint trends and what’s coming for SharePoint pros, especially SharePoint developers. You’ll want to read what Eric had to say in this issue. Eric also shared a treasure trove of facts about how SharePoint is doing in the marketplace, including the following:
- SharePoint is a $1.3 billion business for Microsoft.
- Microsoft has sold more than 100 million SharePoint licenses.
- There are more than 300 ISVs building and testing SharePoint 2010 solutions today, and that number is expected to double in the lifetime of the 2010 release.
- The SharePoint services opportunity for Microsoft partners and developers is $5.6 billion today, and will grow to more than $6.7 billion in FY2012.
- More than 500,000 software developers have created at least one development project using SharePoint in the past six months.
- There are 4,600 SharePoint Professional Partners and 8,000 other partners through the Ignite program.
- Microsoft teams had trained more than 5,500 consultants on SharePoint 2010 by the time it launched.
