5 SharePoint Answers: Eric Riz on Governance and More

Preview of 2014 IT/Dev Connections Conference

We caught up with SharePoint expert Eric Riz and asked him these 5 SharePoint questions.

#1: What do you think is challenging and/or important for people to learn about SharePoint/Office 365?

Governance is the most overlooked aspect of SharePoint.  Companies are too quick to deploy and hope that things run smoothly from site to site; that, of course, is not the reality.  Organizations have to do the ground-work to ensure that their structure, sites, access and information layer are all accounted for and managed appropriately.

#2: What advice would you give new attendees for getting the most out of a tech conference?

Bring lots of business cards and meet everyone you can; networking with your speakers and fellow attendees is a big part of the event.  Also make sure you plan ahead so you can cover as much ground as possible.

#3: What do you drink at SharePint?

Club soda.

#4: What are you most looking forward to at September’s IT/Dev Connections?

As this is my first time at the event, I’m looking forward to seeing what it’s all about.  We’ve got phenomenal speakers coming together at a great venue, I can’t wait.

#5: Give us the “elevator pitch” about your presentations--what are you going to talk about?

I’m speaking on governance and project management, two of my favorite topics.  The "Governance Strategies for SharePoint 2013” talk will walk through strategies for the changing SharePoint world, and the Project Management talk “Implementing SharePoint: A Project Manager’s How-To” walks attendees through a SharePoint project from start to finish.
