JSI Tip 9049. Have Windows Explorer display your folders and files in groups?

In Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and greater, you can have Windows Explorer organize the right-hand panel display into groups, based upon one of the following:

Name - first character of the file and folder name.

Size - Zero, Tiny, Small, Medium, Large, and Folders.

Type - File and folder type.

Modified - Date modified.

Attributes - The file and folder attributes.
To activate this feature:

1. Open Windows Explorer, or My Computer.

2. Navigate to the folder that you wish to organize, expanding it in the right-hand pane.

3. Right-click a blank area in the right-hand pane and press Arrange Icons By followed by Show in Groups.

As long as the Show in Groups item is checked, you can press Arrange Icons By and select Name, Size, Type, Modified, or Attributes.
