JSI Tip 8609. Windows 2000 Professional reports 'An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket' when a DHCP clients releases and renews their IP address?

When you issue an IPConfig /Relase and IPConfig /Renew, you receive:

This behavior can occur if BlackICE Defender is installed on your computer.

To resolve this issue:

1. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet in Control Panel.

2. Select BlackICE Defender and press Remove.

3. Restart your computer.
