JSI Tip 7966. When you add files, via a copy or install, to a Windows 2000 SP4 partition with 512 MB of free space, or less, you receive 'There is not enough space on the disk'?

Windows 2000 SP4 increased the size of the USN (Update Sequence Number) journal, that the FRS (File Replication Service) reserves from 128 MB to 512 MB.

To resolve this problem:

1. Open a CMD.EXE window.

2. Type fsutil usn deletejournal /D VolumePathName and press Enter, where VolumePathName is the DriveLetter:, the mount point, or the volume name.

NOTE: Install Fsutil.exe from a Windows XP CD, or Windows Server 2003 CD.

3. Type fsutil usn createjournal m=800000 a=100000 VolumePathName and press Enter, to decrease the size of the USN journal to 128 MB.

4. Use Chkdsk.exe with the /f switch to fix the drive.
