JSI Tip 7139. 'Unexpected error (1195787019) occurred' when installing Windows 2000, and a 'Memory Parity Error', or 'PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA' when you restart?

When you try to install Windows 2000, you receive:

Unexpected error (1195787019) occurred at line 1562 in D:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\arcdisp.c.

When Setup completes, your computer may hang with a Memory Parity Error on the black screen, or logon screen, or you may receive a PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA with Address A01449E2 base at A0000000 Datestamp 38438887 - win32K.sys.

These behaviors are symptomatic of a damaged DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) socket.

To identify the faulty DIMM socket:

1. Power off your computer.

2. Open the case to expose the motherboard.

3. Remove all of the DIMMs, being careful to protect against static electricity damage.

4. Insert a DIMM that you know works correctly in one of the DIMM sockets.

5. Turn on the computer and start Windows 2000.

6. Record the DIMM socket that is in use when the error appears. If the error does NOT occur, repeat steps 1 through 5, using the same DIMM in a different DIMM socket, until you receive the error again.

Now that you have identified the faulty DIMM socket, have your computer replaced or repaired, or do not use the faulty socket.
