JSI Tip 5789. Error - 'Could not start the WWW Publishing Service. Error 1008. An attempt was made to reference a token that does not exist.'?

When you attempt to start the WWW Publishing Service for IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000, you receive the subject error.

This problem is caused by a corrupt metabase.

To resolve the problem:

1. Rename %SystemRoot%\System32\Inetsrv\Metabase.bin to Metabase.old.

2. Use Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs to remove IIS.

3. Reinstall IIS.
