JSI Tip 5022. Windows 2000 issues errors when printing to LPT1?

When you try to print a document, you receive:

There was an error found when printing the document <document name> to LPT1.

Do you want to retry or cancel the job?

When you use Device Manager to view the printer port information, the device is reported as inactive:

Code 29: Firmware not correctly installed.

If you uninstall the printer port and restart your computer, the printer port is detected and you receive:

This device is disabled because the firmware of this device did not give it the required resources (Code 29).

This is generally the result of a BIOS setting.

Change your BIOS parallel port setting from OS Controlled or Automatic to Enabled.
