In both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, Global Group names are restricted to 20 characters.
A bug in Windows NT 4.0, permitted you to create a Global Group name that exceeds this limit. If you upgraded from Windows NT 4.0, this invalid Global Group still exists. To delete it, see tip 1655.
In both Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, a Global Group name can contain any uppercase or lowercase characters except the following:
" / \ \[ \] : ; | = , + * ? < >If an invalid character existed prior to a Windows 2000 upgrade, I suggest you rename it.
NOTE: Windows 2000 prevents the creation of Global Groups with invalid characters.
NOTE: A Global Group name can NOT consist solely of periods (.) and spaces.
A Local Group name can contain up to 256 characters. It can contain any uppercase or lowercase characters, except the backslash character (\).
