JSI Tip 3497. When you Telnet to a SMTP or POP server, your input has no effect?

When you Telnet to ports 25 or 110 to perform manual SMTP / POP input, you see the prompt, but your input has no effect?

Some POP and SMTP servers require a CR and LF. When you press ENTER, only a CR is being sent.

To resolve the problem, in Telnet, before you connect, type:

set crlf
