JSI Tip 3495. How do I prevent new users from automatically receiving the Configure your Server Wizard?

When a new user logs on to Windows 2000, they receive the Configure your Server Wizard. To prevent this from occurring:

1. Use Regedt32 to navigate to HKEY_USERS.

2. On the Registry menu, press Load Hive.

3. Browse to the folder that holds the default profile for new users, C:\Documents and Settings\Default User.

4. Double-click the new user registry profile, Ntuser.dat.

5. In the Key Name box, type .AAAA.

6. Navigate to .AAAA\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Setup\Welcome.

7. Double-click the srvwiz value name and change the data in the DWORD Editor from 0x1 to 0x0.

8. Collapse the .AAAA hive.

9. Select the .AAAA hive and press Unload Hive on the Registry menu.

NOTE: See tip 2478 » How do I disable the Configure Server wizard for a Windows 2000 unattended install?

Note: You do NOT need to restart the computer.
