JSI Tip 2973. Windows 2000 Server Licensing Manager issues an error message?

When you open Administrative Tools / Licensing Manager on your Windows 2000 server, you receive:

To open Licensing, you must be an administrator of the domain on which license information is stored for your network. If you are the server's administrator, use the Licensing option in Control Panel to manage Licensing on this server.

This can happen if you have multiple protocols installed and the LAN connection is not primary and/or TCP/IP is not bound first. To fix the problem:

1. Control Panel / Network and Dial-up Connections / Advanced / Advanced Settings.

2. Select Local Area Connection and use the arrow on the right to move it to the top of the list.

3. Select the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) under Files and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks and use the arrow to move it to the top of the list.

4. Press OK.

5. Restart your server.

NOTE: See tip 2743.
