JSI Tip 2423. Your keyboard and/or mouse doesn't work in Safe Mode?

When you boot normally, your keyboard and mouse (PS/2 or Serial) works, but either may not work when you boot to Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking?

This condition is the result of some missing or damaged registry entries.

Copy / Paste the following text into a .reg file:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

\[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318\}\]
@="Keyboard"

\[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Minimal\\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318\}\]
@="Mouse"

\[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318\}\]
@="Keyboard"

\[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot\Network\\{4D36E96F-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318\}\]
@="Mouse"

Double click the .reg file and press Yes in response to:

Are you sure you want to add <Drive:>\<Filename>.reg to the registry?

NOTE: The above registry entries are the same on all Windows 2000 computers.
