JSI Tip 2355. Windows 2000 Professional prompts for Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM when you add printer drivers for Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 95/98?

Windows 2000 Pro prompts you for a Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM when you try to add support for Windows NT 4.0 or W9x print drivers?

These drivers are only included on the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM or on the Windows NT 4.0 or W9x media.

If you have the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM, mount it, when prompted.

If you do NOT have the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM, you can install Microsoft drivers for Windows NT 4.0, on Windows NT 4.0, as if the printer was locally attached (LPT1). In the Run box of the Windows NT 4.0 computer, type the UNC of the Windows 2000 Pro Printers folder (\\Windows2000ComputerName\Printers). Right-click the printer for which you want to add Windows NT 4.0 driver and press Sharing. In the Windows NT 4.0 Additional Drivers box, press Windows NT 4.0 x86 and press OK.

To install Windows 98 drivers, install them locally (LPT1) and share the C:\Windows folder on the network. When you try to install the W98 drivers and are prompter for the Windows 2000 Server CD-ROM, browse to the \\W98ComputerName\Windows\Inf folder. When W98 is finished checking the Msprint.inf file, you receive an additional prompt. Browse to \\W98ComputerName\Windows\System.
