If you receive the subject BSOD when starting your Windows NT 4.0 computer, you may have set the Read-only attribute on one or more registry hive files in %SystemRoot%\System32\Config.
To resolve the problem, you need an alternate install of WinNT, preferably on a different drive, partition, or folder.
Boot the alternate install and remove the Read-only attribute(s) from the original installations hive(s).
NOTE: The System account requires Full Control of the hives for WinNT 4.0 to function as designed.
