JSI Tip 2012. What is the signature(x) in the ARC Path in boot.ini for Windows 2000?

In tip 0055, I described the SCSI and MULTI syntax of the ARC Path.

In Windows 2000, you may notice a signature(x) syntax.

The signature(x) syntax is used when any of the following are true:

1. The partition is larger than ~7.8GB and the BIOS (System or Boot device) does not support INIT13 extensions.

2. The ending cylinder number is greater than 1024 and the BIOS (System or Boot device) does not support INIT13 extensions.

3. The partition is on a SCSI drive and the SCSI BIOS is disabled.

If you have a signature(x) entry, you may notice pauses and delays when starting your computer.
