JSI Tip 1978. How do I stop users from tampering with the Windows NT Explorer View Options?

Starting with Service Pack 4, you can remove the Options menu from the View menu, preventing using from altering your settings for hidden files, etc...

Use Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

On the Edit menu, Add Value name NoOptions, as a type REG_DWORD. Set the data value to 1 to remove the Options menu from the View menu.

The user must logoff / logon for this setting to take effect.
