JSI Tip 1098. Unable to connect to IMS using your mail app and unable to telnet to port 25 on IMS?

If you have the subject difficulties when connected to your ISP, but you can ping your IMS (Internet Mail Server) and you can use your LAN mail application, you may have one or more of the following issues:

. Your ISP can not handle IP Header compression.

. You have the Winsock Proxy client installed.

. Your IMS is a Unix box without an IP address assigned to MMDF (Multi-channel Memorandum Distribution Facility).

To resolve the problem, perform one or more of the following actions:

Disable IP Header Compression

. Select your ISP entry in the Phonebook.
. Click More, click Edit entry and modem properties, and click Server.
. In the Network Protocols section, click the Settings button and clear the Use IP Header Compression check box.

Uninstall the Winsock Proxy

. Control Panel / Add/Remove Programs / Microsoft Proxy Client

Have Your ISP Assign an IP Address to MMDF

. ??????

Disable Compression

  Hardware compression

        . Control Panel / Modems / Properties / Connection tab / Advanced.
        . Clear the Compress Data check box.

  Software compression

        . Select your ISP entry in the Phonebook.
        . Click More, click Edit entry and modem properties, and click Configure.
        . Clear the Enable Modem compression check box.
