JSI Tip 10512. The '<User Name> Documents' category is NOT displayed in My Computer?

When you see the Files Stored in This Computer category of My Computer in Windows XP, you see the Shared Documents category but not the <User Name> Documents category.

This behavior can occur if you rename your user account, or if a registry entry was deleted.

To add the <User Name> Documents category to the My Computer display, I have scripted DocFolderPaths.bat.

The syntax that an Administrator would use to add your <User Name> Documents category to the My Computer display is:

DocFolderPaths LogonName "My Documents Path" Where:

LogonName is the logon name, like Jerry.

My Documents Path is the path to LogonName's My Documents folder, like C:\Documents and Settings\Jerry\My Documents.
The Administrator must restart the computer for the change to become effective.

DocFolderPaths.bat contains:

@echo off
If \{%2\}==\{\} @echo Syntax: DocFolderPaths LogonName "My Documents Path"&goto :EOF
set SAMID=%1
set MyDocs=%2
@echo REG ADD HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths /V %SAMID% /T REG_SZ /F /D %MyDocs%
REG ADD HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths /V %SAMID% /T REG_SZ /F /D %MyDocs%
