After you disconnect from a shared folder on a Windows XP remote computer, the
automatic standby or hibernation configured in Control Panel / Power Options for that remote computer no longer function?
This behavior may occur if you rename a file in the shared folder, or move a file into another shared folder, prior to disconnecting.
The only workaround for this behavior is to either restart the remote Windows XP computer, or manually place it in standby or hibernation.
To restart the remote computer, I prefer using PsShutdown.exe:
1. Open a CMD.EXE window.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:
PsShutdown -f -r -m "Your Message" -u <UserName> -p <Password> \\<RemoteWinXP>
Where:
<UserName> is the account of a user who is authorized to logon and shutdown the remote Windows XP computer. <Password> is the password for <UserName>. \\<RemoteWinXP> is the remote Windows XP computer.To manually hibernate the remote computer:
1. Open a CMD.EXE window.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:
PsShutdown -f -h -m "Your Message" -u <UserName> -p <Password> \\<RemoteWinXP>
To place the remote computer into stand by mode:
1. Open a CMD.EXE window.
2. Type the following command and press Enter:
PsShutdown -f -d -m "Your Message" -u <UserName> -p <Password> \\<RemoteWinXP>
