JSI Tip 0935. If your Workstation Service won't start and you have 2 NICs.

If the System Event log has:

   Event ID: 3870
   Source: Workstation
   Description:  is not a valid computer name.

   Event ID: 7023
   Source: Service Control Manager
   Description: The Workstation service terminated with the following
   error: A duplicate name exists on the network.

chances are that both network adapters are attempting to register the same NETBIOS name with WINS.

Use Control Panel / Network / Bindings tab/ Show Bindings For and click All Adapters

Click the plus sign next to the second network adapter.

Click NetBEUI Protocol, and then click Disable.

Click Close.

Shutdown and restart.
