Flatter Is Better

IT budgets are flat. Employees have everything they need on their laptop and desktop computers. Just when you thought you could take a breather from the upgrade frenzy, 15" flat-panel LCD screens reach a magic price point of less than $500. Company employees want them, and they want them now.

According to a study by InfoTech Trends, the market for flat-panel screens will climb 18 percent a year through 2005, when more than 45 million units will be sold. The reasons for the explosive growth are easy enough to identify—flat-panel screens are more ergonomic and easier on the eyes, take up less space on the desktop, and look cool.

Although folks want flatter, they won't necessarily buy bigger. As the graph shows, 15" will continue to be the most common screen size.
