You can also choose File ? Page Setup and click the Layout tab as an alternative to steps 1 and 2.

  3. Select Different first page.

To remove a header or footer from the first page of a document or section, configure Different first page then delete the contents of the first page header or footer.

When printing double-sided, it is common to use different headers and footers for odd and even pages. Typically, a double-sided document is printed so that odd-numbered pages are on the right and even-numbered pages are on the left. Page numbers are usually positioned on the outside edge of the document so that they are easy to see. This would be accomplished by positioning the page number on the left side of a header or footer for even numbered pages, and on the right side of odd numbered pages.

To create different headers and footers for odd and even pages in a document:

  1. Activate your header or footer by choosing View ? Header and Footer or double-clicking a header or footer.
  2. Click the Page Setup button on the Header and Footer toolbar.

The Layout tab of the Page Setup dialog box appears.

You can also choose File ? Page Setup and click the Layout tab as an alternative to steps 1 and 2.

  3. Select Different odd and even.
  4. Click OK.

Once you have configured Different first page or Different odd and even, your document will now contain more than one header and footer pair.
