ComponentOwl.com, a provider of components and controls for Microsoft .NET Framework, has released Better ListView, a component designed to replace the standard list view control included with .NET. (ComponentOwl.com was founded in 2010 as part of the Dextronet.com network.)
Better ListView is a lightweight, fast component, written in managed C# code, which doesn't inherit from the regular .NET list view control and has no dependencies. As Jiri Novotny, Better ListView project manager, explains, "We have created Better ListView because we'd been frustrated with the regular .NET list view control and couldn't find any viable alternative."
ComponentOwl.com touts Better ListView as a more user-friendly list view control than the regular .NET list view that behaves similarly to Windows Explorer's list view. Among the key features included in Better ListView are the following:
- better drag-and-drop support
- support for three types of context menus (items, column headers, and empty area)
- built-in multi-column sort
- image-support features, including smooth resizing and column-header images
- each sub-item can have its own image
- XML serialization
- sub-item label editing
Better ListView is compatible with .NET 2.0 and later. Pricing starts at $345 for a single-developer license. Source code licenses are also available.
