Israel-based ShieldLock, a developer of cloud security software that has been in stealth mode up to now, has announced the introduction of beta testing for its Cloud-Guardian product, a platform aimed at developers seeking to add security to their mobile applications accessed from the cloud.
Cloud-Guardian is designed to reduce piracy for all mobile platforms, including Apple iOS, Google Android and Microsoft Windows Mobile, according to SheildLock.
Cloud-Guardian’s aim is to help reduce application piracy by providing effective and efficient license management. The platform will assist developers in protecting their application without being security experts, the company claims. Cloud-Guardian is meant to address the security gap that exists between online app stores and marketplaces where apps are downloaded and distributed, and the enterprise and consumer users who use them. The platform verifies and manage user licenses, letting developers secure and protect their applications with minimum change of code.
Security is a major concern for enterprises that allow their employees to access cloud-based applications using their own mobile devices. Adding a layer of security to the apps themselves in the development phase should help ease the minds of IT professionals even before they implement their own security measures for employees accessing apps in the cloud. The move also should help mobile developers protect their investments in the apps they are creating, if the platform is successful in preventing piracy as the company claims it should be.
In making the announcement of the beta trial, SheildLock cited research stating that piracy accounts for an average of anywhere from 30 percent to 90 percent revenue loss for application developers.
