EMC Upgrades CLARiiON, Reduces Cost

EMC has introduced technology to its CLARiiON systems's line of enterprise storage systems that will lower cost and increase performance. The new solutions let customers configure CLARiiON systems with 181GB, 7200rpm and 36GB, 15,000rpm disk drives. CLARiiON systems currently ship with 73GB drives.

The new 181GB drives increase CLARiiON's capacity from 9TB to 22TB per system. The increased storage capacity lets customers purchase larger storage solutions at a reduced cost because of the increased capacity of the hardware. The 36GB, 15,000rpm drives will help customers experience up to a 45 percent performance increase for applications and solutions requiring high performance.

According to Joel Schwartz, EMC's senior vice president and general manager, CLARiiON Systems Division, "\[Customers are\] demanding new high-capacity and high-performance information storage options, while protecting their investment in existing systems." EMC's new solutions will help create more value when keeping costs down for businesses has become increasingly important.
