Upgrade Path

Windows XP Home Edition is the typical upgrade for home users who are running Windows Me or Windows 98. Business users running Windows 2000 Professional or Windows NT Workstation 4.0 will want to upgrade to Windows XP Professional. If you're running an earlier version of Windows, such as Win95, you cannot upgrade directly to XP. Instead, you'll need to perform a fresh installation, use the Migration Wizard to transfer your user settings and files, then reinstall your applications. Figure A shows the different upgrade paths to get to XP.
