JSI Tip 3283. Slow performance accessing local drives by a share name?

If you access a local folder by its' share (\\ComputerName\ShareName), TCP/IP requires that the data pass through the server, redirector, and network components of the O/S.

If you use NetBEUI as the only protocol, or you use \\IPAddress\ShareName, the loopback code is NOT used, reducing the delay.

The best solution is to NOT access local resources with network functionality.
