JSI Tip 5660. How do I browse Active Directory in Windows XP?

In Windows 2000, when you open My Network Places and expand the Entire Network tree, the icon would provide the ability to browse the Active Directory.

This feature is missing in Windows XP.

You can add support for Active Directory browsing in Windows XP by copying the %SystemRoot%\System32\dsfolder.dll library from a Windows 2000 installation that is running Service Pack 2 or higher. Use the latest Service Pack available.

After you copy the library to the %SystemRoot%\System32 folder on your Windows XP computer, you must register the library:

regsvr32 dsfolder.dll

If you wish to restrict this capability to selected users, implement tip 3275 » How can I allow users to search the Active Directory, but NOT casually browse?
