Music Videos Arrive on Xbox One

Another Xbox 360 feature shows up belatedly

Unique among the platforms supported by Xbox Music, Microsoft's Xbox 360 provides access to music videos. So when the Xbox One appeared sans music videos, I figured that was the end of that. But not so fast: Starting today, music videos are making a comeback on Xbox One.

"We're introducing more than 92,000 music videos to Xbox Music ... on Xbox One," a Microsoft blog post notes. "Rock out to a new playlist, create a Radio stream based on your favorite artist or pick a random track from your collection with Xbox Music on Xbox One, and if the song has a music video, watch it play automatically in sharp HD on your TV."

I wrote about Xbox 360's music video support in Paul Thurrott's Xbox Music 1.8, and since the current in-progress version of Paul Thurrott's Xbox Music 2.0 will cover Xbox One, I guess I'll be adding content about this topic in that book too.

Honestly, there's not much to say here, beyond the fact that I'm excited to have a new venue for my favorite Roxette videos.

"The process is simple," Microsoft explains. "Find your playlist, say 'Xbox Play,' and watch the videos appear on screen. You don't have to spend hours tracking down videos for each song – it's all rolled into one easy step."
