Q. How do I configure Windows Server 2008’s Windows Explorer so that it displays thumbnails of files?

A. By default, Server 2008 is configured to not use the system resources necessary to generate thumbnails of files, so it always displays the default icon associated with the file type. You can modify this behavior on the View tab of the Folder Options dialog box (accessed via Control Panel’s Folder Options applet or Windows Explorer’s Tools, Folder Options menu item). Clear the "Always show icons, never thumbnails" check box, and click OK. Thumbnails of file content will now be displayed instead of the file’s icon.
