Q. Are there any updates required for Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2003 to act as key management servers for Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2?

A. An update is available for Server 2008 and Vista machines that allows these OSs to act as KMSs for Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2. An update for Windows 2003 is also available.

Once you apply the update, your system will reboot. The new Windows 7 or Server 2008 R2 key is supplied using the command

slmgr.vbs /ipk
