PlayStation 3 Still on Track for Spring 2006

Sony backers who are tired of all the Xbox 360 news these days can take heart: Sony says that its PlayStation 3 video game console is still on track for a spring 2006 launch in Japan, which likely means the United States will see the device by the 2006 holiday season. The timing of the PlayStation 3 is a huge concern for a number of markets. Video game designers think the PlayStation 3 will ultimately outsell the Xbox 360 and provide a sales boost for next-generation games. And consumer electronics companies believe that the PlayStation 3 will be the key for proliferating the Blu-Ray next-generation DVD format, because the PlayStation 3 will include a Blu-Ray drive. Between the two markets, that's billions of dollars that are hanging in the balance, whether you care about video games or not
