Microsoft Alters IE9 and IE10 June Patch Changes After Customer Confusion

After KB2957689 hit the wires during June's Patch Tuesday, customers found that whether they were running IE9 or IE10 on Windows 7, once the web browser was opened, it displayed a Microsoft IE9 Privacy Statement page displayed located here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/windows-internet-explorer-9-privacy-statement, for some users or a "Browser has been upgraded" page (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/products/ie-9/welcome-upgrade3) for others.

For some users the page displayed every time, for others just the first time the browser was opened.

Per a response from Microsoft…

This behavior is by design and was introduced by enabling search suggestions.

But based on feedback here, the IE team made a backend change Wed night to prevent the Privacy Policy from appearing on a new tab. Users should now see a "Your browser has been upgraded" page which has a link to the updated Privacy Policy instead of loading it in a new tab.

They’re eager to hear back to confirm this has resolved the issue for your customers.

Thanks for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.

Additionally, the privacy page display can be fixed through applying the following GPO:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]

 "PrivacyPolicyShown
