JSI Tip 6384. When you map a network drive in Windows XP, the next available letter is NOT used?

When you mapped a network drive in previous versions of Windows NT, the next available drive letter was used.

When you map a network drive in Windows XP, by using the GUI or the net use *command, the next available drive letter is NOT used.

Windows XP maps to the last available drive letter. It starts with Z: and works backwards.

If you wish to use the next available drive letter, specify it in the net use command or select it in the GUI.

NOTE: See Using a temporary drive letter is a batch.
