JSI Tip 5776. How do I remove the frequently used programs area from the Windows XP Start menu?

Windows XP maintains a MFU (Most Frequently Used) program list on the Windows XP Start menu.

NOTE: The MFU list is NOT maintained on the Classic Start menu.

You can remove this area of the Start menu:

1. Copy / Paste the following to a NoMFU.reg file:

REGEDIT4

\[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\]
"NoStartMenuMFUprogramsList"=dword:00000001

2. Merge the NoMFU.reg file with the registry or run regedit /s NoMFU.reg.

3. The user may have to log off and on for this setting to take effect.
