When you first start your Windows 2000 computer, you receive:
Stop 0x000000B4 The video driver failed to initialize.
One likely cause of this error is a conflict between the parallel port and the video card, if the parallel port I/O address is set to 03BC.
To workaround this problem, change the parallel port I/O address from 03BC to 0378:
01. Start your computer and press F8 at the Starting Windows screen.
02. Select Safe Mode, and then press the ENTER key.
03. Log on using the local administrator account.
04. Start / Settings / Control Panel / System.
05. Select the Hardware tab, and press Device Manager.
06. Press the + sign next to Ports, to expand the Ports list.
07. Select the LPT1 printer port.
08. On the Action menu, press Properties.
09. Select the Resources tab and clear the Use Automatic Settings box.
10. In the Settings Based On drop down menu, select a setting that uses an I/O address of 0378.
11. Press OK.
12. Close Device Manager.
NOTE: You can also change the I/O port resource setting for the parallel port in the BIOS of your computer.
NOTE: The parallel port driver does not load in Safe Mode but it does in VGA mode.
