JSI Tip 2924. How do I prevent users from setting screen saver passwords, by using Windows 2000 policies?

You can make screen saver password locks unavailable on a site, domain, OU, or local computer, using policies:

01. Start / Run / MMC / OK.

02. Press Add/Remove Snap-ins on the Console menu.

03. Press Add.

04. Select Group Policy and press Add.

05. If not a local policy, browse for the site, domain or OU.

06. Press Finish and Close.

07. Double-click User Configuration to expand it.

08. Double-click Administrative Templates.

09. Double-click Control Panel.

10. Press Display.

11. In the right-hand pane, double-click Password protect the screen saver.

12. Select Disable on the Policy tab to prevent users from setting passwords on screen savers.

13. Press the Explain tab for information on using this policy.

14. Press Apply.

15. Press OK.

16. Close the MMC.

17. Open a CMD prompt and type: SECEDIT /REFRESHPOLICY USER_POLICY /ENFORCE
