JSI Tip 2343. If your external modem is not on when Windows 2000 starts, it will not be available.

If your external modem is not detected at startup, because it is powered off or disconnected, Windows 2000 reports that it is working properly after you enable it, but you may receive errors when trying to use it.

To use it, you must restart Windows 2000 or:

1. Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager.

2. Right-click Modems and Scan for hardware changes.

You will see a dialog box indicating the scan. When it finishes, your modem will function.
