JSI Tip 1813. 16bit applications load slowly, or seem to hang, when the default network printer connection is lost?

Some 16bit apps, such as Write.exe, search for the default printer when they load.

If the default printer is network connected, and is not currently available, the application will load slowly or seem to hang.

To resolve the issue:

Install a local printer and set it as the default (an expensive solution)

                   OR

Define a printer that prints to a file and set it as the default.
