JSI Tip 1811. Can I use ANSI.SYS?

The Windows NT 32bit console, CMD.EXE, does not support ANSI escape sequences.

COMMAND.COM, and MS-DOS applications that support ANSI escape sequences, can use ANSI.SYS.

To load ANSI.SYS, add:

device=c:\winnt\system32\ansi.sys

to \System32\CONFIG.NT.

If you wish to use ANSI.SYS in COMMAND.COM, you must also add:

dosonly

to \System32\CONFIG.NT.
