How can I configure the authentication dialog box to use a local account rather than a domain account?

A. Typically, when an authentication dialog box prompts for a username, it defaults to the domain name, or you can specify the domain by using the format (NetBIOS domain name)\user (e.g., savilltech\john) or [email protected](FQDN of domain)--for example, [email protected]

If you want to use a local account on the machine, just pass the machine name instead of the domain name--for example, localmac\bob. If you can't remember the local computer name, just use a period (.) instead--for example, .\bob.
