Internet Security Systems (ISS) today issued an alert warning users of new varients of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack tools. The tools are the well-known Trinity and Stacheldraht programs, used earlier this year to incapacitate popular networks, such as Yahoo! and eBay.
According to the ISS report, there are at least eight varients of Trinity, all found on Internet Relay Chat channels. A new version called "entitee" was discovered in mid-September, which is essentially a clone of the original version with some minor command tag changes.
The new Stacheldraht varient contains several new DDoS abilties since the first version entered circulation. The report stated that the version tested can instigate network flooding through six additional methods. Users should update their intrusion detection systems of choice to avoid having their networks partake in DDoS attacks.
