Microsoft's upcoming Wolfpack technology, which makes possible scalable NT Server clusters, is paving the way to NT-based multiple-Web server solutions. Competing UNIX variants have offered this facility for years. Before clustering, NT was scalable only in a multi-processor sense. The first version of Wolfpack will focus on two-server clusters, with multi- server clusters to follow. The second phase-in of Wolfpack will address load-balancing features, fail-overs, and server utilization thresholds. Currently, only 50 software vendors have access to the Wolfpack SDK. Compaq, Digital, Hewlett Packard, IBM, NCR, Tandem, and Intel Corp are all preparing Wolfpack clusters. The first of these systems are due in mid- 1997
