Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 3.02 to beta testers

Microsoft has released a beta version of Internet Explorer 3.02, a minor version upgrade, to testers this week. The revision fixes security holes that were discovered last week and adds a new "Auto Proxy" feature that makes it easier for corporations to add new proxy servers for IE users. The odd news here is that Microsoft is releasing an IE 3.0 revision this close to the release of IE 4.0. Apparently, Microsoft wants to make it easy on new IE 3.0 users who currently have to download IE 3.01 and then download a security patch.

"We will do the best we can given the snapshot of current issues," said Microsoft product manager Dave Fester. "Is it the last release \[of IE 3.x\]? That all depends on what the industry and the Internet have to say.
