Microsoft releases cumulative update for Windows 10 desktops and mobile

In one sweeping release, likely the final update for 2015,  Microsoft has provided the latest cumulative update for Windows 10 on non-Insider desktops and mobile Insiders on both the Fast and Slow testing rings.

This release brings the operating system on desktop, tablets and mobile Windows 10 devices to Version 1511 (OS Build 10586.36).

Since it is a cumulative update there is not much known about what it does on the system beyond what appears to be a new statement similar to the previous performance improvements and bug fixes.

Now the Knowledge Base article for the update (KB3124200) simply reads - This update offers improved functionality for Windows 10 Version 1511 - someday we might yet get those more verbose descriptions for these system updates.

Along with announcing this update to everyone on the Windows Experience blog, Gabe Aul has also stated that moving forward new build related announcements will no longer be published there but will be made available in the Windows Insider Hub on Windows 10.

This follows yesterday's announcement that known issues associated with any new Windows 10 builds will also only be published to the Insider Hub.

I guess it is truly becoming a hub for Insider information and I imagine it will also unclutter the Windows Experience blog along the way.

The final piece of news from the Windows team with this release is that flighting will slow down significantly over the holidays. It will slow down so much that no builds will be pushed out to Insiders until 2016.

I also want to set expectations for new builds for both PC and mobile between now and the end of 2015. This time of year many of us take the opportunity to spend time with family and take some vacation time, so the engineering team will be running at a slower pace and many of our key people who drive our flighting process will be out. This means we won’t be releasing any new builds to Windows Insiders until January, for both PC and mobile.

So it is definitely time to settle in for your long winters nap with this build and enjoy your holidays.
