Microsoft is now providing the capabilities of Dynamic HTML to traditional Windows programmers with a beta version of its Dynamic HTML Editing Component. This component can be embedded in IE 4.0-based Web pages and standard Windows applications; it will also be included in future versions of Visual InterDev, Visual J++, and Outlook Express.
Basically, the component allows any application that uses HTML as its user interface to provide true What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editing capabilities. These capabilities are available to VBScript, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, and other programming languages via COM interfaces.
"The DHTML Editing Component is especially useful for incorporating editing into HTML-authoring applications, HTML Help, and HTML e-mail applications," says Microsoft's Nancy Cluts.
